Your mission, should you choose to accept it…

Your mission—should you choose to accept it—is of the utmost importance to the future of the entire free world.

Firstly, infiltrate Pendle Rooms. Known as the always-closed bar due to its watertight security, you’ll have to have all your wits about you to get in. Q is on sabbatical leave so you’ll have to requisition your own outfit – we recommend tuxes, dresses, jumpsuits, or whatever Agent Powers wears.

Secondly, make contact with our agent on the inside. They’ll be in position behind the bar, and the codeword is “Can I have a drink please”. Or several.

Finally, we have agents The Calls, Lake Komo, Rews and The Lottery Winners in position on the stage. These are the crack squad from our Musical Espionage division. Once they’ve whipped the crowd into a frenzy you should have all the distraction you need to eliminate the Grizedalian ambassador.

Once your task is done, exfiltrate. DJagents Josh:Lee, Soundslave and Alex Hardman will be on hand to cover your escape.

It’s JCR Bye-election Time!

Do you want to get more out of your time at uni? Think you could apply yourself to shaping your college? Want to add fantastic experience to your CV when you graduate? Pendle, this is your chance!

Pendle College will be holding nominations for a selection of JCR Exec. roles between 10:00 Monday 30th May and 16:00 Friday 3rd June. You will hold the position from Freshers’ Week next year until the full elections towards the end of Michaelmas Term. The opportunity to shadow current JCR members will be available to all electees, so don’t worry about going in blind.

The following positions are up for grabs:

• President
• Vice President (Events)
• Event Officer (x2)
• Vice President (Welfare and Education)
• Women’s Welfare Officer
• Men’s Welfare Officer

If you have any questions for the incumbents, you can find their contact details here.

Here are a few questions we expect people may have:

Can anyone run?

Pretty much! Whether you’re a Pendle fresher or a third year who’s only just moved to the college, the JCR is open to all Pendle students. The only caveat to that is that, obviously, if you will have graduated by next year you are ineligible to run.

What’s the workload like?

There’s not point lying to you: the JCR does bring with it a fairly sizeable workload. You will have to think carefully about whether you would be able to handle both your course and JCR workload before you apply. However, bear in mind these positions are only for one term.

Will getting the position now help me win in the full elections?

There is no rule or guarantee, but having prior JCR experience will be a boost when you run again. Not only that, but this term will help you be sure that the role is right for you, without the full year’s commitment of a full election.

What does role x do?

You can find the full bye-laws for all the roles in Pendle College’s constitution here.

Love is in the air

It’s Valentine’s Week! That special time of year where you and your bae and Pendle JCR (who is always in the back of your mind) get together and reaffirm your pure and virtuous love for each other.

How does Pendle JCR love you? Let me count the ways:

It’s Shrove Tuesday, and your SCR are giving out prizes for the highest caught flip at Pendle’s Flippin’ Fantastic Pancake Tossing.

On Wednesday, come down to Pendle’s General Meeting – the first of the new JCR and your chance to hear what’s been going on in the college, grill the JCR and have your say.

Then, later that evening, it’s A Valentine’s Day Shindig with Pendle. We’ve got our usual Wednesday tequila offers, plus free chocolate, lube and condoms AND the sight of the VP: Welfare & Education wearing fairy wings and a condom hat. Don’t miss it.

On Thursday afternoon we have Piece of Cake & Peace of Mind, a collaboration with mental health charity Mind. Get some cake in you and learn about good mental health.

That evening is, of course, Pendle Live, but this week has a twist – we’re being taken over by LUGleeC for a Glee-themed showing.

It’s Sunday, why would it be anything other than Pendle Pub Quiz?
